Craghoppers NewHide leather uses an innovative tanning process which uses less water and energy. Traditional leather tanning uses a huge amount of water, this new process uses fewer chemicals, less energy and saves 60-84% of the water the traditional process would use. ​​​ Craghoppers work with the Leather Working Group (LWG) to ensure that the tanneries which provide the leather used in our products work to social and environmental best practices. We are pleased to say our collections are now sourced from 100% LWG certified tanneries.

What Is NewHide?

NewHide is real leather produced through an innovative, low-impact tanning process that uses fewer chemicals, less water and less energy than traditional tanning. It saves between 60% and 84% of the water used in conventional tanning and spends 38% less time in the tanning drum, cutting energy use.

All NewHide leather comes from 100% Leather Working Group (LWG) certified tanneries — keeping the natural strength, breathability and comfort of leather with a far lighter environmental footprint.
